The Post Graduate Diploma in Management Programme
Now into its fifth year the PGDM programme has received a
wide acceptance from the corporate world. The Institute was
ranked as the 30th best institute in the Outlook / MDR 2001
survey of 700 business schools in India. Among the institutes
started after 1990 KIAMS ranks 13th.
Management Development Workshops
Recognising the need for fostering managerial and organisational
excellence in business organizations, KIAMS dedicated itself
to the task of Management Development in the Kirloskar Group
and for other companies.
Since 1992, KIAMS has designed and conducted over 235 workshops
participated by over 5000 managers both from within and outside
Kirloskar Group companies.
In addition to residential programmes, KIAMS also conducts
numerous custom designed in-company programmes in areas like
strategy, managerial competencies, cost reduction, relationship
marketing, six sigma quality etc.
Few of our valuable clients to date are: AV. Birla Group,
Escorts Group, TVS Group, India Post and NDDB.
A Programme for executive secretaries to MDs, conducted along
with Bangalore Management Association, and a programme on
Managerial Competencies for the New Millennium along with
Madras and Goa Management Associations are examples of our
commitment towards developing managerial excellence.
Expert Consultancy
KIAMS is one of the very few business schools in the world
linked with a premium business house which gives its faculty
a unique opportunity to grapple with live business issues
through consultancy projects and visioning exercises.
The Institute has been involved in consultancy assignments
such as, Strategic planning assignment for K-Group, Business
Process Reengineering for Kirloskar Oil Engines Ltd, Strategic
repositioning for Kirloskar Brothers, and Competitive Marketing
strategies for NDDB. This is a rich source of experiential
knowledge that guides the faculty's teaching and research
endeavors.
Management Research and Publications
KIAMS faculty is actively engaged in conducting and publishing
conceptual and empirical research and case studies. Our research
benefits from consultancy programmes, which are embedded in
action research methodology. The entire process is systematically
studied and discussed in forums, which in turn creates new
insights in guiding our research endeavors. The knowledge
so created is disseminated through publications in books,
academic journals, business magazines, periodicals and in
conferences. Consultancy programmes have been undertaken for
Shimoga Milk Union, NDDB and K-Group companies like KOEL and
KBL to name a few.
Selection for the PGDM Course
Admission into the PGDM course is strictly on the basis of
merit. Students for the programme are selected on the basis
of the Common Admission Test (CAT) of the IIMs (KIAMS is among
10% of business schools in India where selection is through
CAT), a Group Discussion and Personal Interview. The selection
process identifies candidates with capabilities for undergoing
the rigorous programme at KIAMS, and the competencies to make
a mark in the tough world of Management.
Learning Paradigm
The Institute's philosophy of imparting education centres
on the creation of a true learning environment. To achieve
this, the Institute encourages use of a wide range of pedagogical
methods and strongly emphasises experimentation for further
innovation. Case analysis, role-plays, participant presentations,
use of computer software, simulation and games, lecture-cum-discussions
are amongst the teaching methods commonly used. Equal importance
is assigned to in-class and out of classroom learning. Students
are also encouraged to carry out limited project work based
on the field data, use of computerised databases, etc. in
various courses. Both individual and team learning are, therefore,
equally emphasised aspects of the learning process.
The PGDM is a two-year fully residential programme. Each
year is structured into three terms. In addition, the students
undergo an eight-week training in organisations during the
summer, at the end of the first year.
Beyond Classroom Learning
Management Forum: a student body with the objective
of exposing students, throughout the year, to current industry
practices and to professionals who have created a niche for
themselves in their respective industries.
The Forum invites eminent professionals from the industry
and the students get an insight into the best practices across
the corporate world.
Convergence: An in-house management competition for
the students of KIAMS
Operacy: An annual All India paper writing competition
Pragati: The annual marketing fair organised entirely by the
students of KIAMS provides a unique opportunity for the corporate
houses to introduce, promote and sell their products, brands
and services.
Kalasanchay: The cultural arm of KIAMS, holding cultural
programmes every month as well as on festive occasions for
the members of the institute as well as local invitees.
Chanakya: The institute’s newsmagazine, publishing
5 issues every year.
Ashwamedha: The Sports committee
